I have been fighting  kidney disease for sometime now.  I just had surgery last week and had a port put in my stomach.

I am scared I really don’t want dialysis and really need a kidney.

I am praying someone can help me.

Thank You

Dear Friends,

As some of you may know, my dear mother-in-law, Darlene Joan, was diagnosed with kidney disease in May of 2010 and has been out of work since early December. Despite all efforts and prayers, Darlene’s kidney disease has become worse over time, causing her kidneys the inability to function properly and keep her alive. The disease she is suffering from is a hereditary condition, which her father, two aunts, and paternal grandmother have all passed from.

Today, Darlene is completing at home dialysis treatments, with each session taking up to 6 hours per day. Although the dialysis is keeping her alive at this point, a transplant would offer her more freedom, and the ability to live a longer, healthier, and more normal life.

Darlene is such a wonderful person and an absolutely amazing mother-in-law. She has selflessly devoted her life to helping others, especially children. For the last twenty years she has been a paraprofessional in the Jamestown Public Schools, of which the last nineteen years she has worked in a self-contained special education room.

Darlene has been married to her husband Rick for 37 years and together, they have three children Amy, Michele, and Michael. She also has three grandchildren, Brittney, Brandon, and Gianna, which bring her daily doses of joy. Darlene enjoys having her entire family over on Sundays to cook them a big dinner. She takes pleasure in baking delicious homemade pies, loves going on vacation, sun bathing, lounging around the pool in the summer, and taking trips to the casino…especially when she wins big!

As I’m sure you can imagine, finding a kidney for a transplant is not easy and asking a family member or a friend to consider donating a kidney is a difficult task. However, we know doing so greatly improves her chances of receiving a transplant! For those of you who have little awareness of this disease, a living kidney donation has a much higher rate of success.

Darlene needs a new kidney, and we hope anyone reading this will consider being tested to be a donor. We know this is a big request, but we do so on behalf of a remarkable woman, who devotes every day of her life to making a difference to her family and friends. If you can help, please do. If you know anyone who might want to donate, please forward this on. If you think you may be interested in helping Dar, we encourage you to get a blood test or donate blood to find out your blood type. Her blood type is O positive.

Thank you for taking the time to read her story. If donating a kidney to Darlene is something you would like to consider, I would be happy to tell you more about her story and explore the process of determining if you are a match for her. You can also contact her transplant center directly at 1-814-877-3487.

I am hopeful Darlene will receive a kidney soon and I encourage others to consider helping the many people that anxiously wait on the list for their donation.

Thank you,

Allison Morganti
