My name is Joann Wellman. I am 67 years young and married to my husband, Michael. We have 2 amazing children and 1 beautiful granddaughter, who leave in Washington. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at a young age and had my first transplant in March of 2012. My native kidneys were removed in August of 2017. Things have been slowly declining and I have now been on dialysis since July of 2020.
I enjoy traveling to see my children and grandchildren whenever possible. I also love to cook and bake for my loved ones. Being outside kayaking, gardening, and working in the woods used to be some of my favorite things to do! Since starting dialysis, I have struggled to find the energy to do many of my favorite activities and hobbies. It has also severely limited the amount of traveling I can do to see my family members. The blessing of a donor would allow me the freedom to travel, see family, watch my youngest daughter get married, and hopefully meet more grandchildren!
I have experienced the empowering benefit of a live donor once, and know just how fortunate I would be to find the lucky match for transplant number 2. The blessings of this are not lost on me, and I hope that someone finds it within themselves to go through the process to be this second chance for me!
